Partnerships
America's Promise Alliance Founded in 1997 with General Colin Powell as Chairman and chaired today by Alma Powell, APA is a partnership of more than 300 corporations, nonprofits, and advocacy groups devoted to improving the lives of children. Their top priority is ensuring that all young people graduate from high school ready for college, work, and life. McBride College Bound is proud to be a partner with this group. www.americaspromise.org MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership has been working to expand the world of quality mentoring for over a decade. MENTOR believes that, with the help and guidance of an adult mentor, each child can discover how to unlock and achieve his or her potential. MENTOR is widely acknowledged as the nation's premier advocate and resource for the expansion of mentoring initiatives nationwide. As such, MENTOR works with a strong network of state and local Mentoring Partnerships to leverage resources and provide the support that mentoring organizations need to effectively serve young people in their communities. MENTOR has designed a class to augment the professional training of our college student advisors. New Visions for Public Schools, founded in 1989, is the largest education reform organization dedicated to improving the quality of education children receive in New York City's public schools. Working with the public and private sectors, New Visions develops programs and policies to energize teaching and learning and to raise the level of student achievement at 75 New York City schools. New Visions provides incentives and supports to teachers to explore and implement new ways to engage students and increase the relevancy and rigor of classroom practices. McBride College Bound has a program in many of New Visions’ schools. Teachers College at Columbia University is an institution with a rich and distinguished record in the field of education. Since its founding in 1887, the College has anticipated concerns and acted with initiatives to advance educational reforms and issues. With its tradition of innovation and insights, the College is one of the leading schools of graduate education in the country, if not the world, embracing three fields: education, psychology and health. The faculty and students of Teachers College are working with McBride College Bound to create measurement systems for our program while also introducing us to additional elementary and middle schools throughout New York City who want our program.
